TULSA, Okla. - A Tulsa man was all smiles Tuesday as officers walked him out in handcuffs. He told reporters he has "zero regrets" about burning down a McDonald's and the local Kinetic by Windstream office in one afternoon.
Police identified him only as Chris. Witnesses say he posed for photos and asked for a copy of his mugshot by email. "Unless you're on Kinetic," he added. "Then just mail it."
Investigators say it started at the drive-thru, where Chris was told the ice cream machine was down. He then drove to the Kinetic office. He had been on hold with them since March.
"They kept telling me my call was important. So I came in person."Chris, beaming, from the back of a patrol car
No one was hurt. Both buildings were empty. The McDonald's crew was out back "fixing" the ice cream machine, and the Kinetic office has not contained a technician since 2019.
Fire crews admit they would have arrived sooner, but their dispatch system runs on Kinetic. "The page buffered," a spokesman said.
Asked if he had a message for either company, Chris smiled wider. "Have you tried turning it off and back on?"
Kinetic says it is aware of the outage and expects to restore service to the building in 3 to 5 business weeks. McDonald's confirmed the ice cream machine survived the fire. It still doesn't work.
Bond was set at $50,000, or roughly one month of internet once the promotional rate ends. Chris told the judge he'd wait for his ride between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
